Retirement of Dr Shama Joshi

Dr Joshi will be retiring from St Andrews Surgery with effect from the 31st March 2023. She has worked at St Andrews, in its various guises, since 1995 and will be very much missed by many of our patients. We wish her a long and happy retirement.  Dr Joshi will continue to work at St Andrews on a Tuesday and Thursday as a Locum GP.

Practice Nurses

Practice Nurses provide a wide range of services including monitoring patients with Long Term Conditions such as Asthma, Diabetes and COPD. In addition, they provide Immunizations and Vaccinations to children and adults and undertake Cervical Screening. They can also provide advice on minor illnesses and wound care.

Pharmacists

Primarily involved in processing medication changes from hospital discharge letters. They are able to use their more detailed knowledge of medications to assist GP's in prescribing the most appropriate medications.

Healthcare Assistants

Healthcare assistants support practice nurses with their daily work and carry out tasks such as phlebotomy (drawing blood), blood pressure measurement, undertaking ECG's and providing lifestyle advice.

Practice Management

The practice manager is involved in managing all of the business aspects of the practice such as making sure that the right systems are in place to provide a high quality of patient care, human resources, finance, patient safety, premises and equipment and information technology. The practice manager supports the GPs and other medical professionals with delivering patient services and also helps to develop extended services to enhance patient care.

Reception Supervisors

Reception Supervisors provide support and assistance to the Reception and Administrative Team. They are very experienced and are able to deal with more difficult situations.

Reception & Administration

Our receptionists are there to welcome you, make appointments, arrange visits and help you make the best use of the services the practice offers. They are fully trained and act according to doctors’ instructions. During surgery hours they are much in demand, but will always try to help you with any queries as sympathetically and efficiently as possible. Any information entrusted to the receptionists will be treated in complete confidence. If however you would like to speak to someone in private, please mention this at the reception desk.

Secretaries

Our secretarial, clerical and computer staff, supported by members of the reception team, undertake a wide range of essential support tasks. These include patient registrations, management of patient medical records, processing of referral letters and medical reports, preparation of repeat prescriptions, issuing invitations for health screening, vaccination programmes and clinics, and liaison with local hospitals, community services and other agencies.
